Habitat: Live in the deep, dark depths of the ocean where the current pulls them to and from. Fun Facts: Average size is 4.5 inches, but they can grow up up to 6 inches. Depth range is 984 to 3,320 feet. Its genus name, Lampocteis, derives form the Greek root for "brillant comb: referring to the bright lighted comb rows. The deep, red color helps mask its bioluminescence from predators in the deep sea. Human Impact: Humans have no direct impact on the Bloody Belly Comb Jelly, but being in such a fragile part of the ocean, any pollution that makes it towards their neighborhood has terrible impacts on them and the other species in their habitat. |
